Casino Royal Crown Limits: Time, Loss and Money Caps at Crown Perth
Fact-checked on: November 6, 2026
Quick Navigation
Casino Royal Crown limits at Crown Perth come down to a card, a clock and a few money rules. Since 1 December 2025 you need a valid Crown Rewards Membership Card to play the pokies (EGMs), and that card carries a weekly time limit of up to 28 hours and a weekly loss limit you pick yourself. Both reset at 6am every Monday. Asking for a higher loss limit means waiting at least 7 days, and sometimes a lot longer.
Crown Perth Limits at a Glance
| Limit | Value | Who sets it | What happens when you reach it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily play | 12 hours a day | Fixed cap | Daily cap on carded play |
| Weekly time limit | Your choice, up to 28 hours | You, at a Crown Rewards desk | No EGM play until 6am the following Monday |
| Mandatory breaks | Every 3 hours | Fixed | A break is enforced |
| Weekly loss limit | Your choice | You, at a Crown Rewards desk | No EGM play until 6am the following Monday |
| Limit cycle | Starts 6am every Monday | Fixed | Time and loss counters start again |
| Raising a loss limit | 7 day cooling off period | Fixed | Can stretch past 7 days (see below) |
| Lowering a limit | Immediate | Fixed | Waits 7 days if you've already hit your limit |
If you spot a higher weekly figure elsewhere on Crown's site, go by the carded play rules: your weekly time limit can't exceed 28 hours.
The time and loss limits apply to Electronic Gaming Machines. You can't play an EGM without an updated, valid card.
How the Weekly Limit Clock Works
Every weekly cycle begins at 6am on Monday. Your time and losses count from that point until the next Monday 6am.
Hit either limit mid-cycle and you can't play EGMs until 6am the following Monday. Reach your loss limit on Tuesday night and the machines stay off for you for more than five days.
So does it matter when you hit it? A lot. Hit it late on Sunday and you're back at 6am Monday, a few hours later. Hit it on Monday arvo and you're out for nearly a full week. Same limit, very different wait, which is worth thinking about when you pick your numbers.
Your monthly Player Activity Statement
Crown provides members with a monthly Player Activity Statement summarising your EGM play: time spent, wins and losses. WA Government legislation requires Crown to provide these monthly.
You can read it three ways:
- by email, if you've given Crown a personal, current email address;
- on a Voucher Issuance Kiosk (VIK) on the floor;
- at a Crown Rewards desk.
Check last month's statement before you change a limit. It shows whether the numbers you set match how you actually play.
Changing Your Limits: Raising Takes Longer Than You Think
You can set or adjust your limits at any time by visiting a Crown Rewards desk. Going up and going down follow different rules.
| Change | When it applies | Exception |
|---|---|---|
| Raise a loss limit | After a 7 day cooling off period | If you reach your current limit in the cycle where the 7 days end, you're locked out until 6am the next Monday, so the new limit arrives later |
| Lower a limit | Immediately | If you've already reached your current limit, the lower limit applies after 7 days |
Raising a Loss Limit and the 7-Day Cooling Off
A request to increase your loss limit starts a 7 day cooling off period. The increase only lands on time if you don't reach your current limit within the weekly cycle in which the cooling off ends.
In practice, the sequence looks like this:
- You ask for a higher loss limit on a Wednesday.
- The 7 days end the following Wednesday, inside the cycle that started at 6am that Monday.
- Stay under your current limit that week and the new limit is available once the 7 days are up.
- Hit your current limit on, say, the Tuesday of that week and you can't play EGMs until 6am the next Monday. The new limit only becomes usable after that, well beyond 7 days.
The practical move: once you've asked for a raise, keep your play well inside the old limit during the cycle when the cooling off ends. Hit it and the higher limit slides back to the next Monday reset.
Lowering a Limit: Instant, With One Catch
A decrease takes effect straight away. If you've already reached your current limit, though, the decreased limit only takes effect after a 7 day cooling off period.
You're locked out until Monday 6am in that situation anyway, so the delay bites in the next cycle: you start it on the old limit until the 7 days run out. Want the lower limit in place from the next reset? Ask for it before you reach your current one.
Choosing Your Numbers
The amounts are entirely up to you, and they should reflect your personal financial circumstances. When you set them you also sign a Time & Loss Self-Declaration. That's a regulatory requirement, and it confirms you've taken your finances into account.
Two timing points to plan around:
- Desk hours. Crown Rewards desks open 8:30am to 2:30am, Monday to Sunday. The casino runs around the clock, but a Rewards desk won't be open at 4am.
- Help on site. The Crown PlaySafe team is onsite 24/7 if you want to talk through your limits or anything else about your play.
Where the Limits Apply - and Where They Don't
Carded play at Crown Perth is tied to EGMs. At present you don't need a valid Membership Card for Table Games or Electronic Table Games. If you're already a member, Crown still asks you to update your card regardless of where you plan to play.
Other Crown venues run on different settings, so don't carry assumptions across:
- Crown Melbourne has an extension until December 2027 to bring mandatory carded play to all table games.
- Sydney: mandatory carded play already operates at the casinos of both Crown and Star Entertainment Group.
Can you play online with Crown instead? No. Under the Australian Federal Government's Internet Gaming Moratorium, Australian operators like Crown can't offer online gambling.
Money Caps on the Casino Floor
Your loss limit isn't the only money rule at Crown Perth. Chips and cash have their own.
| Transaction | Limit or rule | Since |
|---|---|---|
| Purchases with casino chips | $100 per transaction | 12/01/2024 |
| Where chips are accepted | Crown Sports Bar, Groove Bar & Lounge, Mesh Bar, Fusion Bar, Riverside Room Bar, Baccarat Room Bar, plus drinks ordered at gaming tables and machines | 12/01/2024 |
| Cash at the Cashier | ID may be required, including for cash transactions of $5,000 or more | - |
In practice, chips work as spending money only at those six bars and for drinks at your table or machine, and never more than $100 in one go. Moving $5,000 or more in cash at the Cashier? Bring your ID, as you may be asked for it.
Getting a Valid Card Before You Play
A valid Crown Rewards Membership Card needs four things:
- [ ] Verified ID, shown as the physical document. A photo of your ID isn't accepted.
- [ ] A photo on the card.
- [ ] Weekly time and loss limits, plus a signed Time & Loss Self-Declaration.
- [ ] Updated contact details, so your Player Activity Statements reach you.
The update takes about 10 minutes at a Crown Rewards desk, though waits vary with the time and day, and you can use the card straight away.
The photo on the card is a security measure so nobody else can use it. Any misuse of a Membership Card, including using someone else's, may lead to action on the membership.
Interstate, Overseas and First-Time Visitors
- Melbourne or Sydney Crown Rewards card: before you play EGMs here, you'll need a photo on it and time and loss limits set for the Perth casino.
- Overseas visitors: if you want to play EGMs, you need to register for a valid Membership Card as well.
- Higher-tier members: Silver and above can also update their card at Riverside Room reception. Gold and above with Pearl Room access can use Pearl Room reception.
- Holiday closures: the casino is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except Christmas Day (closed 3am to 10pm), ANZAC Day (closed 3am to 12pm) and part of Good Friday from 3am. Check Good Friday hours with Crown before you head in.
Why Crown Perth Has These Limits
